An Events and Marketing Manager season in my career. My first paying job was in sales. In Indonesia they call it Sales Promotion Girls or SPG for short. While the job title might provoke a negative connotation to some ears, I performed it with passion and integrity. No work was below me, I did it all, from lifting boxes to sell products in the streets and from helping procuring marketing collateral to becoming the representatives in company’s or school visits. This job was the gateway to my career in marketing. Juggling uni and part-time job, I was sure that my future would be doing something corporate that enables me telling stories that change people’s mind. When I graduated and got my first full time job as a Bank-Taller, I knew in my heart that it was set for a stepping stone to the real future. I set a timeline and when I saw the first chance to make things happen, I grasped it without blinking.
The journey eventually led me to a permanent employment position as a Customer Event Specialist in a bank tied to one of the biggest corporations in Southeast Asia. The job then paved the way for me to earn a scholarship and studied abroad. With a degree in communications from Leeds University and a handful of experience in corporate job, I entered the Start-up Era. Back in 2017, it was fashionable and promising. Yet, the best part was not being part of the trends but having the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs and like-minded people. Securing a job in a multinational start-up, I was responsible to manage the day-to-day marketing activities of its business unit, where entrepreneurs meet and discuss their the next 1 Billion Dollars idea.
Having a role in the endeavour to tackle the world’s most pressing issues through business solutions, I navigated the intricacies of engaging with bright minds and different brilliant solutions and brought them to one shared trajectory at a time. For this particular project, we aimed to promote the importance of Ocean Conservation. As their new Events and Marketing Manager of Entrepreneur Resorts, I was trusted to develop the existing event concept and lead the execution.
